Dear Cousin,

Im beginning to wonder if independence is worth it's price..hope is fading thin. I have secretly envied you and would rather be home disfigured than here under these conditions. It has been cold and our attempt at housing does little to soothe this. We are starving and have been trying to survive on mere firecakes that are repulsive.I know that I may sound like a failure and weak, but what are we winning. We are dying of fast numbers of disease from lack of sanitation and barely have space to breathe in our sleeping quarters. We drink our own sewage cousin,were cold, were hungry,and dying!!.....and there is nothing we can do about it.Nothing.

Ive been here for jus about a year now and still havent seen a truely humbling reason to stay and fight.Our bodies have gone through great torture from overwork and lack of supply that our feet bleed and crack as we march.Men relieve themselves everywhere including in our water supply and it smells horrible. Dear cousin is it wrong for me to pray for death to save me?Is it wrong for me to feel homesick and fed up. I dream of deliverance from my suffering.

The colonies should have the right to be their seperate people because as human beings they should not be denied the right to live and control their own life.They are their own person and therefore should not have to abide and live on rules made by someone who could care less for their wellfare.Being attached to Britain has caused nothing but misery and war for the colonies.They are faced with unfair and obsurd taxes,caught in the middle of quarrels started by britain, and are made to clean up all the damage made by their ruler. It is unfair and should not be tolerated.
It has been a rough past and it is our duty to change the future for generations to come,so that they do not have to suffer under these conditions.Going to war may be putting a lot at risk, but if decide to ignore it and do nothing we will surely lose a lot more. Our freedoms and liberties should not be determined by the actions of others. We have to keep our eyes on the big picture of independence,and having a goverment of equality and choice.
