Benjamin Church was the man that was responsible for protection of the colonies because of all the actions he took on opposing indians. He wasn't a ruthless killer because of his christian beliefs, he would actually try to save the lives of the peaceful indians. He was thought of as the god protected man because of the many times he was faced with danger, but never got wounded. Therefore he was the one responsible for the capture of Philip, and his fiercest warrior Annawon. He along with his followers ambushed with great strategy many of the opposing forces and of course came out victorious.
Miles Standish was the man who was accredited for showing the indians the consequences for challenging the english. He was more forceful and a lot less merciful than Benjamin Church though they both used almost the same tactic of ambushing the unsuspecting indians. Unlike Church who spared the peaceful indians Standish gave his men orders to shoot any indians who attempted to flee. His show of force -no matter how confused-had won the pilgrims some new respects. He had been crossed by an indian who boasted a defeat he had over Standish and Standish had the indian and his close followers killed. He was basically like the modern day muscle of a mob.
Though it took a lot of forceful actions of the english and many heads to be set on gates for display to get some peace; war was not the english's intentions. They had came to settle and find a new start. They were ultimately christian settlers who believed in god and peace. They even had several religious rules they followed, like they couldn't be clean shaven or do labor on sunday because it was the day of rest. To sum up the founding of english colonies weren't just violence, but also a mix of idealism.
